2000 Brake Ditty

Ford 2000; 3 cyl. diesel; 8/2 trans.... The brake pedals on my 2000 are pretty close to the bottom of travel when I brake to a stop. I know there is a star wheel adjuster in both rear wheels and am wondering if there is a rule of thumb about adjusting them down on the left and up on the right or is it the reverse? I've adjusted the rear brakes on my 94 F150 and it's almost idiot proof even for me but was wondering if there is some ditty like righty tighty lefty loosey that applies to these tractor brake wheel adjusters. Many thanks for any insight.

I adjusted the brakes on my 860 a few weeks ago, it really helped.

I will definitely say that they are opposites. If i remember correctly the left side wheel was clockwise or righty, tighty.

Right side wheel was CCW or lefty, tighty. YMMV.

When I was a kid working on old Fords I was taught to adjust until you lock down the wheel tight, then back off until you have a little drag, that way it centers the shoes.

That's the way it worked on my F150 rear drum brakes. Just curious, any idea of how many hours you can expect get with a set of rear brakes? I realize there are variables but wondered if there was any kind of rule of thumb on the life of these brakes.
