I am wondering what is the difference between a Ford 4600 SU and a 4600 ford. The SU is 3 cyl diesel I do not know the year yet. just that it has wet brakes and two transmission levers, I think 8 speed . thanks

The difference is the front axle & steering box. The SU has the 8N style swept back axle, whereas the standard version has a conventional
straight axle. The latter is much heavier duty. The shorter turning radius of the SU is the only advantage it has in my opinion.

Thank Bern , both are pretty high dollar tractors if they are in good operating condition. Appreciate the help Randal

The 4600 SU has the same front axle and steering as the smaller 2600 and 3600 tractors but with the larger and more powerful engine and heavier duty double reduction rear axle as the 4600.

My 4000SU, just a older model od a 4600SU

Sorry hit submit instead of preview.

Notice the SU has 3000/3600 style swept back axle and smaller 28" rear tires,

Now my 4000AP, older version of a 4600AP
Notice the heavy cast front bolster and heavy duty straight front axle, also has larger 30" rear tires

Those are really nice looking tractors. I see the difference on the front end , other than that they are the same virtually . Thanks for the post answer pics and info.
