Can someone help me my P.T.O rear shaft broke and had to get another one and they are twin's but the new one will not go all the way in. It stops about 1/4" before the bearing retainer goes in. Could something have fell down and blocking it from going in or do you have to force it in. The engagement arm was engaged but inlaw took it out. Could that be why any help would be nice THANKS

There's a thrust washer that drops down, push in on the shaft and while keeping pressure on in slowly rotate the shaft, this will walk the wash back up into position allowing the shaft to slide the rest of the way in.
Some say grease on a broom handle to make the washer stay in place but I've always managed to walk the washer into position.

Warning: What ever you do DON'T hammer on the shaft unless you want to split the tractor to replace the damaged thrust washer.

What were the symptoms of the broken shaft, totally quit operating or
intermittent, I have a 2810 with pto problems that I'm tying to figure out.
Thanks

On a broken pto shaft usually something happens and the pto shaft snaps off at the back of the tractor, I've never seen one break inside the axle housing but anything is possible.

What is your's doing?

Thanks for the help i looked up in there and can't see a washer. But anyways it's been raining like crazy here so have to wait. But i got bad news for me why i asked my inlaw how he tryed to put it in when i was at work and i'm praying so hard now :(

Yes it broke on the out side by the bearing retainer just made a load pop. i'm having trouble getting on site to reply back. I don't know if it was cracked but big pop and she was done for. I have to wait for it to stop raining tomorrow before i can try again but THANKS again for the input.

When running the bush hog it quits turning in heavy grass. I have checked
pressures per the manual and all are good and haven't found any loose fittings
or cracked lines. Guess I'll have to split and inspect the clutch pack. Just
dreading it. Probably won't be so bad once I get after it.It's sure not going to
fix itself.

So you've had the lift top off checking things.
Might want to start your on thread on this issue, you could get more responses.
es i think he messed it up but i got it in nice and easy after i got the washer out of the way but i got a ?? for you can i still use it with out the P.T.O??? I put a little magnet all the way to the back and did not get any medal out. Thats why i'm asking

Yes you can use it with or without using the pto, if he bent the thrust washer it could cause the pto clutch disc to drag but no real damage to any major components.
