This valve was stuck. After I got it freed up and was working on oil lines I saw this cup sitting on the head. I assume it came off the stuck valve as it is way out of adjustment. It's in a position I cant see and can only feel. I get it started on the valve stem but it doesnt seem right like it's not going on all the way. Any ideas or thoughts on how it should fit or how to get it on?

I think it fell off when I got the valve unstuck. I didnt run it long like that but it is possible it has been off longer than that. I going to take a bore scope over and try to get a better look. I really dont want to take the hood and tank off but I may have to.

I think I got it. On my way back over I thought maybe I can push the rocker over against the spring so I can get my fingers in there and it seems to have worked.

I just rebuilt my Ford 800 with 172 ci. By your post I'm not sure if you removed the rocker arm assembly or not. If you did and are not positive which valve that fell off, they only go on the (4) exhaust valves. The exhaust valves are the one closest to the radiator and steering wheel and the 2 in the very middle. If you try to put in on one of the intake valves, that may be why it doesn't seem to fit.

Thanks. It was an exhaust. I just had to use my head a little. It's in a dark barn and I had to do it by feel because the gas tank and muffler are on it.
