860 new dist wont work with pertronix

First of all it is not the fault of pertronix. My original dist was too worn to get full 24 degree advance. I opted to buy a brand new dist. The dist came from Atlantic Parts.
I attached 2 videos showing how much play the reluctor has when installed on the new dist. Not acceptable. I also attached 1 showing the reluctor installed on my original dist. The dealer says they are all that way and offered my money back. The problem is I have no idea what kind of junk I will end up if I order from a different supplier.

I am looking for suggestions of how to Glue the reluctor in place. (Pertronix offered a new reluctor but like I said it isnt there part that is the problem)

I hope the videos get posted correctly
 
Aftermarket parts are not necessarily like original, actually almost never. If reluctor did fit, I bet you a nickel that it won't have 24 degrees advance! If that is only problem with original, I would re-install it, advance fixed or not.

As long as you can turn the dist you should be able to get all you want... Go get the total and don't fret over the base..
 
I appreciate all of the comments. I sure wish I could have gotten the video to post. I even down loaded a video editor but to stupid to make it work.
Any way. It is important for the centrifugal advance to work properly otherwise I could be losing substantial power at PTO rpm speeds, causing the engine to work harder, develop more heat. Hesitation can also be a problem with out full advance. I am sure for things like pulling a manure spreader or going to shows it would have been just fine with the old dizzy.

My 860 is not going to be a show piece where absolute function is not important. I have a 6' woods grooming mower that I plan on using with it.

I finally kept the new dist. and used Red Silicone and glued the reluctor in place. It seems tight and since it does nothing but spin I think it might work. (Pertronix suggested I use a resin of some kind but I have no idea what he meant ) If this fails, I will reinstall the points and try and find a dwell meter to make sure I am in the correct range.
I am waiting on a new water pump to be delivered to try my silicone fix on the distributor.
 

What are your numbers base and total with the old unit... How much work do you plan to do at base timing ? Worn mechanical units usually have to much total.

I have a dwell meter I will never use you can have for postage if you want it. Shoot me an email if interested.

hat Hobo was trying to tell you, was that you set advance such that at max RPM, the total (static + centrifugal) is correct (4 static + 20 cent =24). So, since anytime you are using the tractor, you have full 24 advance and if you are really 'using' it, it will be at 2000 rpm or more and all is well. If you are puttering about at lesser rpm, then it may have a little more than specified advance, but that will be just fine. It is not a race car!
