Ford 841 Paint Colors (Again)

Does anyone have the paint numbers for my 1958 Ford 841 from Ford or New Holland? I know it's suppose to have a Orange red and what color is the other? I want my painter to get the right paint for that year. Does anyone have pictures of the 801 series with the right colors?

Getting the right shades for these is tough. People will post charts giving you the various different red and gray shades but little help for which is which.

Here is my 961. The gray has a sort of yellowish tan tint to it. There are many XX1s that are painted the newer white instead of gray as this one was when I bought it.

The gray available from the New Holland dealer is the closest to the original in my opinion. The can should say Ford Gray 39-62 which is obviously the wrong date but that?s what it says on the can. Since yours is a 58 the red should be the darker shade of red like a 8n, Jubilee, x00 series. The red at the NH dealer will be the orangeish red that started in 59. If you want to be specifically correct I can find a paint code for the early red for you. If you use the New Holland paint I suggest using Nason Enamel reducer and the hardner available at the dealer. The Nason thinner works great and the paint will lay down much better than the NH thinner.

I've found the TISCO paint matches dang near perfect. I don't like the Ford orangey red paint most brands sell including the TISCO Ford RED and VERMILLION and NH RED shades and take your pick if you do and want a close match. TISCO is made by The Van Sickle Paint Co. and is a good moderately priced alkyd enamel. I prefer the TISCO IH TP-110 that closely matches the original 8N red more than any other and brand and confirmed by some experts. FORD TRACTOR is long out of business. Aftermarket new parts are sold thru Case/New Holland now and they have their Iron Gard brand of Ford Red and Ford Medium Grey that will work well on your 800. TSC use to sell decent paints made by VALSPAR but switched to the junk made and sold today as the MAJIG brand. For Hat Rims, a close match to mimic the OEM zinc is the CASE Iron Gard Silver Argent paint.

9N/2N = TISCO M2888

8N = FORD VERMILLION (RED)M-2822 - TISCO IH TP110 CLOSEST MATCH

8N (AND UP) = FORD MEDIUM GREY TISCO TP-13243

8N (AND UP) = *CNH IRON-GARD? ?? M1J-957 SE4DS

*NOTE: CNH brand says used '39/62' but that isn't right. This is the FORD MEDIUM GREY and not used on the 39-47 Models. CNH no longer makes a Ford M2888 Dark Grey shade.

I am thinking the oranger tractors came with the xx1 1958 models! While the gray was the same from 1948 to 1962.

I may be wrong but I know I have heard that before and I?m sure our 58 861 we bought from the original owner with 1100 hrs was darker. We painted it a few years ago wishing now we would have left it original.

Both the red and gray changed with the advent of the XX1 models. production of the XX1s started in the latter part of 1958, I believe September, for shipping to the dealers for sale at the first of the year 1959. Vermillion ended at that time and the gray became very different. My 961 had a small area of one fender that showed me the original gray under the very light almost gray that it had been repainted.
