Ford 3600 wiring to instrament cluster

Posted before but long story short had mice get in and do a job on the wiring behind the instrument cluster. Finally got time to pull it out. I am trying to fix it but have a few questions. Got 2 items and trying to confirm what they are. The 1st I think are splices (marked with Blue arrow) feel like hard plastic and think they are they just factory splices. Anyone know? 2nd Item with RED arrow just has a wire going in and out and think it must be something special Does anyone know what it is. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The splices are just that. The bulbs have a common hot and use the ground to complete the circuit. The Red arrow I think points to the isolation diode for the oil pressure warning light.

That diode would be across the air cleaner and oil pressure sensors. A restriction in the air intake allows the sensor to turn on the air fault indicator lamp.

Low oil pressure causes the sensor switch to turn on the oil pressure lamp. The diode also turns on the air lamp with oil pressure lamp.

Only the Air lamp on = air fault

Air and oil lamp on = oil pressure fault. This will show greater urgency in case of oil pressure failure, and also a back up oil alarm if oil lamp should fail.

Ok thanks much for the info. feel a little bit better (about attempting this). Bottom line I should be able to just cut out an replace the bad sections (where the mice chewed it) of wire and make sure the diode in the correct way all should be good. :) A few more questions if you don't mind. 1st the fuse in the harness (hard to read) and its short but looks like AGA 3? can any one confirm. 2nd where the light bulbs go in the instrument there is what looks like black rolled up paper (bulb goes in the center). Its is very fragile an falling apart. What is it for and is it required?? Lastly (for now any way) does anyone have a picture/drawing of the wiring on the back of the instrument cluster. Again thanks for all the help.

Do a search on this forum for inst gauge cluster wiring. There is a wealth of info here.

nashranch, your diagram is for the 1965-1975 thousand series, which used a 12 volt generator and the OP asked about a 3600 which was made from 1975-1981 and uses an alternator with an external VR. Lots of things are probably similar between the two but not everything.

This is the diagrams I have from the factory service manual.

Sorry, guess I didn't give the camera time to focus real good

Someone posted this dash photo and I copied it.

The little cardboard tubes are there to isolate the warning lights, without them when you turn on the dash lights the warning lights would glow even though their bulbs wouldn't be lit.

Ok,that makes sense. So basically I could make them out of something like black construction paper just needs to be able to block the light??

Thanks for the Pics from the manual. The second one showing the connector in the middle is what I really need (that is exactly what I have). I know I said ford 3600 but mine has been modified over the years (before I purchased it). I know my engine was replace at some point in time with BSD333 which is 201 cu. in. engine vice the original 176 cu. in. Well have enough info to get started I think ) now to squeeze in the time. Thanks much for all the info.. You folks (an this web site) are a life saver. I m sure I will be back.. Thanks
