remove brake drum on ford 3600

Hi, I rebuild a ford 3600 which burns partially

After rebuilding the engine, clean plenty of rusty parts, I try to remove the break drum but they are totally stucked on the shaft!!!! and my bearing extractor is too small!!!

Does someone create a simple tool for that?

Thanks for your help
and sorry for my poor langage!!!!

Herve from France

Herve,If I remember right there are a couple of flat head screws holding the brake drum on to the axle, right in the face of the drum, someone else will chime in that has worked on them more recently as mine were about 20 years ago so my memory could be a little foggy.

Herve,I was wrong about the screws,Google Ford 3000 brake drum removal,a U-tube video comes up and it shows how to remove the drum,it states you may have to loosen the star wheel adjuster to get it off,but mostly hammering on the surface of the drum like a car is the usual way to get it off.

Thanks Mike

Hammering on the surface of the drum! yes, usually it's enough. But in this case, unfortunately No!

I have the rigth tools, I think I don't 2 left hands as we say here! but the brake drum stays in place!!!!!!!

Put a big 2-jaw puller on the drum and give it a little pull, not a lot. Then beat on the face of the drum with a big hammer. Maybe even heat
the face of it with a torch.

You and I conversed over 20 years ago Herve. Your English skills are getting better!

They stick on the hub in the center Take a torch heat the drum right next to the hub red hot and let it cool and it will come right off.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Bern!!!!!!! how are you!!!!!!!

I remember it well. You used to post here many years ago, that's how we connected. You had some issues with a 7400 (??) as I recall? You actually mailed me some pictures from France.

Sorry, I don't do fakebook or tweetstorm. You'll have to e-mail me the old fashioned way. bernatfidalgodotnet

Now for the most important question: Did you get your brake drum off?

Don't even have to get them red hot. I do that on many of the older cars I've worked on with rear drums. Circle the torch on the drum metal right where it meets the hub. Many times you can actually hear it release. Kind of an oil can sound. If anyone remembers those things. I suspect a few might :)

I worked on a ford 860 brakes a year or so ago, and there was a screw in the back I loosened (brake adjustment screw I think) and then heated the drum up and pounded it off. Took about a day to get each drum off but I probably did it wrong. I dont know if it would be the same on your tractor or not, something to try maybe.
