NAA distributor gear removal

Trying to get the pin out. This one is solid not a roll pin. I ground the ends and now I cant see the pin anymore. It may still be saleable but much more and I will need a gear. I'm about ready to order one.

have been able to see fine line around pin with good light & magnification.

Mine is so beat up now I cant see anything. I will have to get a small file and clean it up. Today is not working out. Maybe later. Probably would've been cheaper to buy another distributor.

ave used a grinder, too and the difference in heating will sometimes bring out pin outline.

I ground it with a dremel tool. Then I heated it and hit it where i thought it was. Seems i have fought with these solid pins before.

h, they are tough! Not sure Henry ever wanted us to remove them! :)

I may need some soon. I am beyond tired of this tractor. I have no more patience right now. Makes it hard to get things done.

Well I see a crack started so I guess a new gear is in order. I should've just bought a new distributor. Still not sure how I will get this one off. Looks like 850 is a different animal.

They are so hard to support I made a bed to lay them in so I can whale away at it, it works quite well...

I found a aftermarket new distributor for $93 with free shipping. Looks like it comes complete with cap ,rotor and all. I already have more than that in this one and looks like a gear will be another $50. Anyone have experience with aftermarket dizzy?

My experience was the same as yours. I could not get the solid pin out. I ended up damaging the gear.

A new or rebuilt distributor got me running, BUT the rotor was hitting the contacts inside the cap! I had to massage things to make it work. Give the replacement before installing to check your new one.

Electronic ignition is supposed to tolerate a sloppy distributor shaft, which is what I had. I did not swap over because my NAA is still 6 volts and at the time there was not a 6 volt EI.

Thank you for the info. I think I will order one. Had I found one this cheap a few weeks ago I probably would've got one instead of trying to rebuild it. Live and learn.

Got my new dizzy today. It has a sticker from cap to body that says warranty void if removed. Now how am I going to install it without removing the cap besides I need to clean and check the gap. Lol.

The new distributor seems to work good. I set it so the points were just starting to open at tdc 1. It started up then I turned it clockwise until it labored slightly. Now I have discovered there is no petcock in the block and its seeping water out of the rusty hole. I will fix that later. I need to check the valves next. I'm thinking of adjusting them at .015 cold. Any suggestions. I dont really want to do it hot with the tank and muffler.
