I need to replace the instrument cluster on my '66 3000 diesel. I recently replaced the engine with one out of a 3600 which has the oil pump tach drive. Will I need to use a 3600 inst. cluster because the tach rotates counterclockwise as opposed to clockwise on the 3000 cluster which drives off the generator. The generator is being replaced with an alternator without a tach drive.

Yes, to use the oil pump tach drive, you need the x600 style cluster. This may also affect your fuel and temperature gauges.

I have a 3000 generator equipped and a 3910 (same series as your 3600) alternator equipped. As you said, the tachs are opposite in rotation. I was able to obtain NEW instrument clusters for both for about 75 bucks each, free shipping off ebay. Work great and the new ones simplified the wiring by connecting things on the rear of the panel rather than using the wiring harness jumpers that were the OEM Ford approach. Directions included. Make an old tractor look new.
