Wiring 971 with YT's harness

Hi all-

Over the past year or so Ive purchased all parts from this website (much appreciated).

This is a 12v with generator.

I believe I have everything wired up according to what I found here on YT.

The problem I am having is the key turns but will not start or shut off the motor.

I disconnected the wire (shown in the pic) to see if this did the trick. It does not but when I touch the wire (which has an in-line bulb) to either side of the terminal block, the bulb lighrs up and I use the push button to start it....using no key at all!

Help!

P.s. I simply flood the tractor out to kill it. Sucks but works :(

I don't understand what you mean by "the key turns but will not start or shut off the motor."

It sounds like you expect the motor to start when you turn the key as with a car.

OK, I re-read your first post and looked the pictures that came through in your second post.

First off, you are not touching the wire to the terminal block in the second picture. You are touching it to one side of the ballast resistor. The fact that it lights up when you touch it there and that the starter button only spins the starter when that wire is touching probably means the other side of that bulb is wired to something that is hot all of the time and it is lighting up because something else connected to he ballast resistor is providing a path to ground.

So if you thought that you were wiring it up properly based on historical posts here, but you thought that the ballast resistor was the terminal block, then all bets are off and you have to find the real terminal block and rewire everything accordingly.

Sean-I sincerely appreciate the input! Much thanks!! - Nick

Hi Showcrop-

Regardless of the position of the key, the push button will start the motor. Very odd. I did something wrong but I believe the previous replies to my initial post corrected my problem.

Much thanks to all of your help!

Got "er done! Thank you to all who steered me in the right direction on this. Much appreciated!! Here is the new part installed.

Thanks again!
