No, don't worry, it is normal. Just put some plumbers pipe dope or teflon tape on it at the end. A tip, just in case you will be removing the T'stat housing as well, is to be sure that the T'stat is seated in the groove in the block before putting the housing back on. If it is not in the groove it can result in a broken housing.
