Hello all. I am very new to tractors and repair but was hoping for some guidance here. I have a 1948 Ford 8n and it has a bad governor,. I was told I had to mark the cam to change the govenor. I am not sure how to mark the cam to change the govenor any guidance would be appreciated.

I thought April Fool's day had been cancelled this year, someone was REALLY "pulling your leg with that tale!

However, it's important to note that which holes the two bolts came out of and put them back where as they were. Using a bolt that's too long in the hole that's behind the timing gear can break the aluminum casting the governor attaches to.

Backing up a bit, how do you know the governor is "bad", why not tell us a bit as to what you've got going on, and how it was so determined.
 
Ok it seems to bog down while running.
Compression test show good compression,
carberator has been changed and tank
cleaned. It runs at idle now great but
anytime you try to accelerate or
decellarate I dies.

Leave the governor alone, it's NOT your problem.

Try opening up the load adjustment screw in the carb 1/2 turn and see if that has any effect.

Check that distributor centrifugal spark advance mechanism is intact and not stuck.

If OK, carb may be gummed up/have restricted passages.
