I have ford 4000 3cyl diesel, after it runs for awhile it starts sputtering
and looses power, I?ve changed the fuel filter, I read there?s a screen
on the injection pump and a screen in the tank that could be blocked
off, would anyone be able to tell me where the two screens are
located?

What brand fuel filter? If NAPA/WIX did you make the COMMON MISTAKE of placing an O ring in the filter TOP OUTER groove? That groove is the fuel inlet and MUST not be blocked with an O ring..

Screen in the tank would be in the tank as part of the tank shutoff/outlet. Item #10.

Some of the pumps have a screen in the end cover. Item #8

Remove the fuel cap and give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner it has to vent or the fuel will stop flowing. First try running the tractor without the cap and see how long it will run. This is a problem that I had and cleaning the cap solved the problem.

I did originally do that but figured it out right away and removed it, that wasn t my issue.

I did try removing the cap after it was already acting up and it didn t improve it, I ll clean it just for good measure today.

So I cleaned the filter on the injection pump, now the tractor will run but is way down on power, I m concerned I may have put the screen and other components back in wrong. I also noticed the screw (to drain water) on the bottom of the fuel filter is leaking and appears to be stripped, I m going to tap and fix that and go from there.

So after checking everything over again the tractor still will not hardly run, it will barely rev up even with the throttle wide open, I m thinking it s probably the injection pump could anyone tell me how to test the cav pump ? Is there a place to screw in a pressure gauge??

Finally got around to working on the tractor today and wanted to give a follow up, I read about several tractors with similar issues and most failed to report the fix.
I installed a new injector pump and new injectors today and now my tractor runs better than ever, I think it was probably weak when I bought it, it feels so much stronger now
