I'm getting ready to paint my 6610-II, and want to use a two-part single-stage paint for better longevity. I know there are seemingly a lot of different Ford blues out there, so I bought a can of official CNH Ford blue spray paint for comparison. I also ask my dealer for an old blue part, and they sold me a remote PS reservoir cover off a 1000 series which I assume is an old part, but I'm not sure. The spray paint matches the cover well, and also matches some protected areas on the tractor. However, these blues all seem to be a bit darker than what I think of as Ford tractor blue and all seem darker than my other faded 10 series tractors. I decided to order a gallon of Ford tractor blue from Transtar/NAPA, and the color is definitely lighter and greener but is closer to what I consider Ford tractor blue. I know printed brochures are not a good guide, but my 10 series brochures seem darker than my old 2000/3000/4000 brochures. So, my question is did Ford tractor blue get darker over the years from 1965 to before the switch to NH Blue? I have a gallon of expensive blue paint that I need to decide if I can use or if it will haunt me that I used the wrong color.

Agreed on poor availability. I have four auto parts stores in town but had to drive to a different county to get it. Auto parts stores go with whatever corporate tells them.

According to this one chart (and there are many) it looks like there are several blues to choose from.

I have had very good results from two part PPG paints (for other makes). Sorry, no PPG number to give you.

Tom,
I looked around on the internet for a while trying to find two references that told me the same story, but I didn't have much luck. I saw the color in your link listed under Ford Tractor Blue, but that color doesn't look that close, at least on my monitor. I have a PPG dealer about two miles away but they are closed to the public - I guess you have to own an official shop to go there. Seems like a bad business model.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I went back out yesterday and painted a slightly larger piece with the new paint, and I think I've determined now that the paint is not a good match. It has way too much grey. Whenever I can I need to talk to NAPA and see if they can either add more blue to this paint or mix me one of their "stock" colors. There was one that was fairly close, just a little too dark. Maybe mixing the two together might work. I wish we still had the paint store in town where the man that had run it since the 50's could mix just about anything you needed by eye.

I think the same blue was used from 63-99.
I have found different brands and types of paint look quite different when wet but all dry the same blue.
I understand you wanting to get it right as I'm in a similar quandary about the light gray that was used with the blue. The CNH paint seems a bit too tan colored to my eyes.
But the guys here and a couple of old timers at Ford dealerships say it is the same tannish, off white gray that they remember when the tractors were new.

The gray looks more tan when it's wet, but gets whiter as it dries.

The sad part is I painted these rims a couple of years ago. Used the "correct" gray but thought it was wrong so I concocted my own color and second coated with that. I left the inside the right color as it's hidden and doesn't matter.
Wish now I had done it opposite...

Even old original parts that have not been exposed to the sun can change color over the years.

This is a subject that always seems to stoke some controversy here on this board, but the official NH position is that Ford tractor blue has been the same from 1963 until 1999 when they started to blend in some more purple. That has been my personal observation as well, I have never detected a change in the hue over the years mentioned.
