Lesson learned....... Again......

Just cause you find a broken cable end for your proof meter on the pump side, doesn't necessarily mean you go and buy a new cable to make it work. Take it from Ol' Uncle Tom to follow the advice I've read 100 times on here. Quit throwing parts at things till you know the real reason for failure! Yup. Put the new cable on and it snapped as fast as I cranked it over. NOW... I decided to pull the meter and look further. Yup. Locked up. Yes, I'll be ordering a new proof meter setup from here tonight. Lesson learned.

While true, I'd be hard pressed to believe you are the only one who misdiagnosed or plainly missed the cause with as said described results ! I've done it plenty times over the years. Always try to find the root of the problem, yet sometimes you will miss it.
Same thing on my proof meter on my 4630. I see that it had the OEM dated tag on the cable, darned tachometer portion, needle runs wild after a certain RPM, tried a new cable, nope, it's in the cluster ! Hour meter runs fine, so I never changed it out, and have wondered if you could isolate the tachometer component, fix or replace same because I don't want the hours to be inaccurate, very low hour tractor, 1200 when I got it.

Glad to hear the later instrument clusters had as many problems as the earlier ones. Misery loves company. :D
