I want to rewire the whole tractor front to back. I have some wires that are bare and some that are completely broken. Getting a new cluster for it so I want to make sure all the wiring is good all the way through. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the tractor that shows which color wire does what? If not does anyone know where I can find such a thing?

thanks in advance for all the help

(quoted from post at 01:47:07 01/29/20) Tough to rewire one when you can buy a
new wiring harness for about $50.

Good point Ultradog....thanks for your help
See below....I forgot to mention it was a 3 cyl gas with a generator. I don't have $503

That $503.00 price is kind of ridiculous. The diesel has exactly the same circuits for the starting, charging, instrument panel and lighting circuits as the gas model. The only difference between them is the diesel has the thermostart wire and the gasser has the resistance wire for the primary side of the coil plus the bypass wire from the solenoid to the coil for hotter spark while starting. You can use the thermostart wire from the diesel wiring harness for the main coil wire but you need to add a ballast resistor in line with it, and then run a separate bypass wire yourself.

Try this one.
I've put in half a dozen of these and had
good luck with them.
It says for diesels but they are the
same.
The diesel uses a big honkin wire from
the key switch to run the thermo start in
the intake manifold. (cold starting aid)
Gasser uses a small wire from the key
switch to energize the coil.
Use the big honkin one to energize the
coil. Otherwise they are identical
harnesses. Easy peasy.

Better yet, just replace the coil with
one made for full 12 volts and dispense
with the resistor and bypass wire.
Someone here will know the number of the
Napa coil.

The Clymer I&T FO-31 manual (SEE LINK) covers the 2000 Model and has the OEM Wiring Diagram - BUT - if you convert to 12V there are some critical other changes to be made. An OEM wiring harness isn't going to supply those changes and the FO-31 Manual isn't going to show a 12V diagram I don't think. A $500 wiring harness must be gold plated... ; > ) Ultradog is the Thousand Series expert so listen to his advice.

Oh no don't get me wrong I trust what Ultradog is saying I was just saying that I failed to mention it was a passer and didn't know if that made a difference. I'm going with his advice and ordering the harness. Ironically the $503 price tag for the other harness is on the yesterday's tractor parts page. That's where I copied and pasted from

A '73 2000 was 12 volts from the factory, so I'm not sure what you mean by "if you convert to 12V". It had a 12 volt generator and external VR, so it may have been converted to an alternator, in which case the charging circuit would be different from original and would depend on what type of alternator was used in the conversion.
