No spark in 641 ford

I had the engine overhauled and can't get spark to the plugs. Timing is correct, converted to 12 volt and put in electronic ignition. When I turn the key on I have spark to the coil. When I turn it over I have spark to the distributor cap but can't get it through the rotor to the plug wires. I have new distributor cap and rotor. Thanks for any help, ideas.
 
My first thought is, do you have the correct rotor. If you still have the old cap and rotor, put them on and test for spark. I'm not a 650 owner, but does it still use the little clip that goes up inside the rotor. They were notorious for getting lost. If you don't have it, NAPA carries them.
 
pretty sure right rotor. Got it at the dealer and checked on the web sight. Tried old cap and rotor with no luck. Clip is in place. Thanks
 
O.K., lets start over. You say when you turn the key on you have "spark" to the coil. I'm assuming you mean you have battery to the primary side of the coil. Then you say when you turn it over you have "spark" to the distributor cap. I'm also assuming that you can get a good strong spark out of the secondary coil wire that jumps a 1/4 inch to ground. Is that correct?
 
Low probability, but the EI might be firing and creating a spark when the rotor is exactly halfway between two of the spark plug wire contacts and it can't jump that much of a gap. Have you tried cranking the timing on the distributor to both ends of its range? That might get the rotor close enough to get a spark out of a plug wire if that is the problem.
 
i thought I had spark to the distributor cap but not now. Very good spark at primary side of coil but very little on negative side. I assume red wire from electronic ignition to + on coil and the other wire to - on coil. Timing looks good but will try rotating distributor. May put points back and give that a try but shouldn't I get spark to the rotor anyway?
