841 Lower Spindle Bearing and Bushing

Hi folks,

Went to replace my spindle bearings and bushings. I'm assuming I have the heavy duty front axle as this tractor had a factory loader on it. Lower bushings and bearings are different than non-HD (bigger). Two questions:

The p/n for the HD bearings are 81802871. I found a site that had them but also listed C5NN3A299A as the p/n as well. C5 being '65 and up I believe. Does anyone know if the spindle bearings for the HD FE 841 are the same as 2000, 3000 and 4000 tractor series? Seems the C5 number is a lot cheaper than the earlier number.

Having trouble with the bushings. This site doesn't carry them and Messicks wants $30 each. Any ideas other than making them?

TIA

Teh parts site shows the HD bearing for the pre-65 4 cylinder tractors as being part number 81802871 as you say, and it also lists the size, which is 37.44mm ID x 55.68mm OD x 16mm W.

The 1965+ 3 cylinder 2000/3000 spindle is part number C0NN3123B and its size is 34.21mm ID x 55.91mm OD x 16mm W so they are not the same as the earlier HD bearing. There is no "Heavy Duty" axle for the 2000/3000 tractors.

The 3 cylinder 4000 has a completely different front axle design and its bearings are part number 81802871, which lo and behold are the same part number as the bearing for the 841 HD bearing.

If you do a Google search on the C5NN3A299A part number, you'll see that it is a replacement for the 81802871 part number and most listings list a lot of tractors that it fits, mostly in the 1965+ 4xxx series of various generations, like the 3 cylinder 4000 series, the 4600 series , the 4610 series and the 4630 series, plus the 3930 but they never mention the pre-1965 4 cylinder models, probably because the HD axles on those prior tractors weren't very common.

Have you measured your spindles to be sure yours has the HD axle? The part where the bearing rides would be 37.44 mm if it has the HD axle and 34.21mm if it has the standard axle.

You might try Wengers of Myerstown Pa. They have some new parts as well as
tons and tons of used parts. Gas tanks with a guarantee. Ive bought a
bunch of stuff from them. They are 50 minutes from my shop. I like how I
can do a touchy feely on the items before I buy them.

You could also try Martin Tractor in Newville Pa.. They have used and new
parts as well.

A company called Green Sales has NOS parts for all kinds of stuff.

I was thinking of taking a ride to Wengers.....they let you wander around the salvage yard? That would be awesome since I do need a gas tank and I want to touch it before I shell out the $200 or so....

Yes they will let you walk the yard. They are nice people. Free chocolate milk while you are there too. (they used to have free sodas)

I was lucky enough to meet the owner. He even took me to his own personal museum.

It is a big operation. Across the street they have heavy equipment parts and they sell motorcycles too.

It will be worth the trip if there are things you need.

Always need something. I think they still have the under-1-hour Ferguson T0-30 on display too. Since I have one and a T0-35 it's an added bonus...thanks for the info. Gonna wait until it warms up a bit before I go tho...
