Discussion on one of the Ford tractor pages on Facebook. Some good advice on how to do it, some saying not to do it... and some that you have to take with a grain or two of salt...

First off, you don't "add" a turbo to a 7600, it already has one on it.

Second, the guy with the 250HP 5000 obviously did that in a dream one night.

Third, it's not a good idea to turbo a 6600 to 7600 power levels. The compression ratio is too high, and the pistons are not cooled.

I had 105 hp from my 5000 with a M&W turbo! Don't do it!!! Too much heat!! Lot's of fuel!! Consumes head gaskets!! It's off and for sale. It just never seemed to have what the dyno said it had.

WayneIA, if you have everything, manifold, turbo, exhaust elbow oil lines I'm interested in it to put on my 5000
PM me a price.
We had that setup on a 5000 before, without adjusting the fuel one can gain 10-15 hp which is a nice little boost when needed.

6600/7600 row crops are hard to find.
I have a 7600 manifold and turbo setup to go on my 6600 row crop, it'll also get turbo pistons and rods. I know the 7600 transmission is different but the tractor won't be used for tillage, it just needs a little more pto power at times.
There is a 7600 row crop on marketplace but after buying 3 tractors in the past year and a half my tractor buying money has been cut off for a while.
The good deals always show up when that happens.

"...without adjusting the fuel..."
That's the part so many people who add
turbos don't follow. My neighbor bought a
5000 new in '65. Wore an M&W as long as I
can remember, but he never turned it up.
He retired in 2000. The 5000 has changed
hands twice since his sale, and is still
local, and still going.

Had the dealer install one on my Ford 8700(many years ago) . Dealer said no need for pyrometer. Got it home, put 5 14 plow behind it. 5 hrs later loud engine knock. Got hot enough to take oil seals out of turbo and sucked oil into number 3 piston. Melted number 3 piston. I would make certain a pyrometer is included with the install.

Dealer must have turned up the pump until it was maxed out. Not smart.

The piston likely melted because it is not oil cooled like the 9700 piston is.
