851D position control only works at top end.

Hello, I have an 851D that need some serious TLC, but the current problem I am working on is the draft plunger is broken off and has been modified with no spring. I do not need draft control, but will that also affect the position control? It will only lift at the very top (and just beyond (also modified)) of the hand touch control. Also can you purchase the whole draft assembly?

I have all of the mechanics of a 100 series lift chest, still in tack, except for the big main spring and bolt through the spring, if you are interested.

ormal operation is in top 1/4 to top 1/3. so you may have no problem.

JMOR, I believe that he is saying that while it is in position control that the lift arms only respond when the control handle is at the very top of its range of motion. The Position control is supposed to work across the entire range of motion of the control handle with the lift arms mirroring how high the control handle is relative to their respective full ranges of motion. That could be a worn cam follower pin and/or the control linkage being out of adjustment.

JMOR, I'm with Sean on this one. I also believe the OP is speaking of position control and you're thinking of draft control.

think you are right about my thinking.

JMOR you are correct in what I am saying. I understand about the cam being worn as well, and I will check that out. Additionally what I want to know is if the actual draft is snapped off, will that affect the position control? In other words, does that have to be replaced? If so I need to get parts prior to opening up.
Thanks

If the 851 parts will coss to a 600 I have a 600 lift cover apart.

I am gonna say it should work without the draft linkage... I would have to look and make sure the pin that that limits the travel of the lift piston from the lift cylinder bore is not part of the draft linkage...

he way I see it, if the draft plunger and the part it attaches to have wound up as though the plunger is all the way to rear, then the draft swivel will be free to move between C and D. In that case I see position control to be free to function normally. However as lift moves thru travel, if the draft swivel travel between C and D is hindered by the draft plunger/draft spring, draft control link assemblies, then I don't believe it will function as it should in Position control.

Excellent picture JMOR, thank you that helps. Brings up another question though... several post mention the "cam" wearing out on on the position control that will throw off the position. Is that item "A" or "B" in the picture?
