Can someone tell me if I can lift the transmission cover to repair the
single wire in the cover that is all frayed and ready to break

Yes. I would suggest that you get yourself a repair manual that descries how to remove the cover, as well as the adjustments you'll need to do to the cables on reassembly.

Again, yes, but heed Bern's advise.

Do not attempt to R & R the transmission cover before reading and understanding the proper procedures in the correct Ford shop manual. Use of improper technique can cause expensive damage, even resulting in the need for unavailable parts.

Make sure you know which [b:5d875ecf86]Select-O-Speed[/b:5d875ecf86] transmission you have before ordering a repair manual. While cover removal and cable adjustment procedures will be identical other aspects will be different if your transmission has been upgraded to the DDC version. If it has, you'll need the SOS supplement manual as well.

Gary, The guys are having a little fun. The proper name is Select-O-Speed and the advice is good. A good performing SOS tractor is a tough tractor. Your's looks really good and straight.
