40 series starter for 7600?

My 7600 needs to have its starter rebuilt or replaced. The nearest shop I know of that rebuilds starters is a little over an hour's drive each way, and I'm not 100% satisfied with the one they did for my 7000. I've heard some people recommend a gear reduction starter. More $$, and I've heard some people aren't happy with them. My cousin bought one for his 7710, but took it off for some reason. On one of the Ford tractor Facebook pages, someone suggested using a 40 series starter. Anyone here tried that? Supposed to bolt right in, but only on the 4 cylinder models - it's too long for a 3 cylinder engine.
I take what I read on that page with a grain of salt, due to the percentage of people there who apparently have never read an operator's manual, or are looking to "turn up" their tractor for more h.p.

you can get a new starter for around $111 to 156 off of ebay or amazon. It hard to get a rebuilt one for that price.

For the gear reduction starters there's one for the 3 cylinder models and a longer one for the 4 cylinder tractors.
I purchased one for my 3 cylinder 4000, it cranked the engine over better than the old Lucas but I won't brag on it, the only issue I had was after a couple of years the bendix went bad and I couldn't find a replacement, only another starter.
The 40 series used ISKRA and Bosch starters, like the older Lucas they will interchange on all models.

Here's some info I found that as me looking at a 40 series starter.
Lucas 5" starter has 2.7 kw output power
ISKRA has 3.0 kw
Bosch has 3.1 kw

My cousin has a 7710 with Lucas and a 7740 with a Bosch, both tractors start easy but one can tell that the 7740 cranks over faster.
My 6610 won't hardly crank over in cold weather even with a new battery, was looking at possibly trying another gear reduction but found that they are also 2.7 kw, now I'm looking for a good deal on a Bosch for a 40 series.
I put a ISKRA on my 4000SU a few years ago and it does crank the engine over pretty good but not like the Bosch cranks my cousins 7740.

True. I think they charged me just over
$100 for the one I had rebuilt for my
7000... and like I said, I'm not
completely happy with it. Plus my drive
time.
