I thought I had it whipped. I replaced the guts of the distributor (points, copper tab, condensor), loom, coil, starter switch, etc. It finally ran after I did all that, loss of spark was my problem. I ran her off and on for a couple months and then parked it. I tried to start it again to take it back to the new owner and now she is back to no spark again. Anyone have any ideas? She has 6.5 volts getting into the distributor but no spark going to the plugs.

Good news Bevan. Thanks for the update. It's nice to hear that our suggestions actually helped. Sorry to about your Grandad passing.

china points will corrode in about a week.. run a dollar bill throught the points and it will then run fine..... till it sits for around two weeks. Only fix is to get some american points from napa or other auto stores with real tungson points instead of the beer can points.

Like Jim said, probably points. Sitting two months points could be glazed.

I see you don't list the distributor cap as one of the things you replaced. Look for moisture inside the cap due to a crack in it. Also try pulling a piece of brown paper bag through the closed points. They could have some contamination on them. With the points closed that 6.5 volts going to the distributor should drop. If not, then there isn't any continuity to ground through the points. It must be aggravating for you. It sounds like you have the tractor sold but it doesn't want to leave you.

You are correct, I didn't list the cap. Its new too. I sprayed some electrical cleaner in it but did not wipe the contact points. The tractor was on long term loan from my Grandad who passed a couple months ago and it has to go to his estate to be redistributed. He was the one who got me restoring tractors back in 1996.

I emory taped the points and the contact points in the distributor cap. After two tries with the starter and a little help from ether, she popped, sputtered, and purred.
