I know nothing about the 2.3 gas 4 cyl. engine. could this motor be installed in my ford 4500 tractor to replace my ford 291 ci. 3 cyl diesel. Pros and cons to this motor. thanks

Don't know about 2.3 4 cyl. The 4500 has 201 diesel or gas. It would take lots of adapting to fit. There is enough 201s in gas or diesel out there to replace what you have. There is even smaller cid 3 cyl out there that will work, just not as much power.

Sounds like a car engine, so I don't think it would work without adding some sort of external framing. The engine on the Ford 3 cylinder tractors is a structural component, meaning that the engine block itself is part of the structural integrity of the tractor frame. It may not look like it on a 4500 because the backoe/loader subframe adds some strength, but what holds up the front of the tractor if the loader and backhoe were removed like on an ag tractor? The bolster (front axle support) is bolted directly to the engine, the engine is bolted directly to the transmission and the transmission is bolted directly to the rear axle. Most car engines these days are made to be as light as possible and probably wouldn't have enough strength support the weight of the rest of the tractor even if you could fabricate adapters that would let the engine bolt up to the bolster and transmission.

Thank you Sean for your valuable knowledge. I think it is a car engine . I will pass on this engine. appreciate you help. Randal
