It's Winter

This followed me home this afternoon - and it didn't have antlers (it's deer gun opener here in MN). It's 6 feet wide, so small enough for the 8N, but I intend to put it on the 961D.

What's neat about it is that the 3pt hookup is reversible, so the blower can be set up as a pull-type or move the PTO shaft and 3pt to the other side and it's a push-type. There's a serial number legible, but no manufacturer name is visible on the data plate.

Temperature wise it's some serious winter here. We're expected to be below zero Monday night. Our 40 head of sheep are perfectly happy, though.

That is either an early Erkstein or an Allied. I have one justl like it on a Ford 860. It works better in the pull behind mode as my 1st gear on a 5 speed is slower than reverse. Be sure the breaker bars on the shaft in front of the blower are intact to break the snow so it moves into the blower.

Morning Colin;
Looks like you are having what we are getting.
Not much in the snow dept., but cold !!! Last night it got down to 3 deg., and at 10 am this morning we are had a 'heat wave' at 15 deg.!!??
This is our third snow so far......maybe two inches and gone in about a day!
Not enough to even think about waking up the 3000D. He is in the shop on the block heater!!

Thanks for the ID suggestions. There are quite a few of the Erskine blowers in the area as their manufacturing was local to us. I agree that the reverse is too fast. You need a good amount of engine speed to throw that snow, and that's not going to work too well with a fast reverse. I intend to use it as a pull blower. I like the ingenious adaptability, though. The fellow I bought it from was using it on his 7710.

Yes, the breaker bars are recently replaced.

Gary, great to see you! I like your winter gear. I put on my Dad's 1970s snowmobile suit to do chores this morning. It was -8 with the windchill.

A 3000D! That's a nice one! What happened to Hermie? I'm not able to get onto the forum much during the summer.

Stay warm!

I've still got Hermie. I had him up for sale with no taker's, so, I gave him to my Grandson to plow his driveway with.
Kept Hermie in the family, so-to-speak!!! 8)
He had made it known to Leslie, that he had his eye on Hermie for a long time.!!!
Nice to talk with you again....it's been awhile!!! :D

You might say....Brothers????

I used my 6' ARPS non reversible snowblower with my 950 in reverse. I think it would have done better pulling instead of pushing and a 2 stage clutch like your 961 would definitely help.

I'm looking forward to putting it to use!

We worked the loader pretty hard this summer. It's been pretty indispensable. Thanks again for the bracket!

I'm a big fan of pull type snowblowers, I have a modern one made by MK Martin. It's 68" wide. I'm using it on my 9N but hope to find a more powerful machine for the snowblower at some point. I've been looking for a 3000 or an 800/900 series but haven't found the right deal yet. There's a 335 diesel with a loader that I'm tempted to go look at also.

I think you posted a video or photo of your snowblower last winter? I remember being impressed!

I've been told that the 3pt/PTO geometry is a little tough on the row crops because of their height and that they work better on the utility models. The fellow who told me that has been selling Fords with his Dad for 30 years. I'll be curious to see how that plays out.

Yes that was me! My 9N does well with it considering the minimum recommended horsepower for the snowblower is 35 hp and my 9N is only 23 hp. It does very well in powdery snow but struggles in really wet snow so that's the only reason I've been looking for a bigger machine. I'll be keeping the 9N for other chores even if I buy another machine though.

I would think a row crop would be perfect to run a 3pt snowblower because of the ground clearance so let us know how it does.
