Ford baler motor

Found a New Holland 290 baler that may have a 172 ci gas in good shape. Will that motor work in a tractor? Seem to remember something about the governor was different?

The baler is a 3 wire baler which he said you can't sell wire bale so it's for sale. Could be a 134 ci also read somewhere they could turn cww is that possible?

Where can you not sell wire tied hay ? In Texas there is still lots of wire balers. It can be bought about anywhere.

In Oregon you can't give them away it's string or no sale. We haven't seen wire bales in Oregon for 25 years

That's crazy how different each area is. Cow guys quit buying wire bales here 30 years ago.

Unless it's got a belt driven governor, the governor should be the same as in a tractor. I took a 134 out of an OMC swather and put it in a 4-cylinder 2000. Straight bolt in. Only difference I found was the industrial engine had a fuel pump, while the tractors are gravity fed. I just put a block off plate over the pump opening.

If you get the casting number off the right side of the block we can probably tell you if it's a 172 or 134. The 172 was used in the the 8xx, 9xx and 4000 series 4 cylinder tractors and the 134 was used in the 5xx,6xx,7xx and 2000 series, but they are direct bolt-in replacements for each other so a 172 will fit in your 2000 just fine. If you put a 172 into a 2000 then there is the potential for applying to much power to the rear axle and damaging the differential, but on a backhoe/loader tractor that shouldn't be an issue.

I don't know that baler but I question the govener being same as on a tractor, I am basing my guess on the New Holand 66 baler we had. On that the 2 cylinder engine had a set fixed operating speed or idle, that engine was used in some small tractors as well and for that they had a veriable speed governer. Then the John Deere 2010 tractor and the No. 45 combine used same engine but tracotr had variable speed verses combine fixed operating speed or idle. So on that baler doers it have a fixed operating speed that would only run baler at a PTO speed or could you run it at half speed? If engine runs should be very easy to tell what govener it has if you can run baler at only idle or wide open or any speed in between. Just questioning because of the difference in the way my too implements were made as for govener.
