Ford 4000 charging problems

I've read a number of threads on here that were helpful but I'm scratching my head on this. I put on a new generator and regulator after having charging problems. Still won't charge, does not register any higher at any rpm. I polarized Genny, traced each wire and made sure they had continuity from genny to regulator etc. I also took belt off and made sure generator would motor. Then I ordered another new regulator and still nothing. Any ideas? I do know fuse to trouble light is blown, light might be bad too? Any reason something in keyswitch might affect it? Thanks in advance, any help appreciated, this is driving me nuts... I just can't believe my old regulator plus 2 new would be bad, I wasn't clear on how to test from this point on.

Connect Field to Armature(Dynamo) at generator, and connect Arm to battery as close in time as you can to startup and while running measure battery voltage to see if it is increasing above the "before starting" voltage. If yes, then generator is working and the trouble is wiring or regulator.

Key switch only affects warning light operation, and has nothing to do with the system actually charging.

If the generator motors, that does not necessarily mean the field circuit is good. Do you see a spark when you polarize it? If not, you likely have an open in the field circuit inside the generator.

If that all checks out, and we assume that at least one of the regulators that you tried is good, it about has to be a wiring issue. Check the two "B" terminals at the regulator connection to make sure they fit snugly. This is an especially critical check if the connector going to the regulator is a molded one piece connector. In that case, check the female prongs carefully for spreading. Better yet, check all of the female terminals there carefully. I check them by grabbing a male terminal and doing a "drag test".

I have seen more than one of the thousand series tractors that had the field wire damaged between the VR and the front edge of the battery tray. That
will cause either a constant no charge or intermittent no charge situation.

Voltage rose to near 13, then I accidentally shorted out the lead at generator, fired it back up, checked to see if it still rose and it did, so hopefully I didn't damage. Hooked back up, was able to tap on regulator and got voltage to rise from 12.65 resting to 13ish, then after I shut off and tried again no rise. Is there a lower threshold these regulators kick in? I have cover off, can see the far right move as I run engine or shut off.

Sounds like cut out 'stand' is pulling in, but perhaps not making good electrical contact, so i WOULD PULL A COARSE PAPER THRU/BETWEEN THOSE CONTACTS TO TRY TO CLEAN. dO
SAME FOR ALL 3 SETS OF CONTACTS. iNVISIBLE 'STUFF' CAN INSULATE.

Thanks for the help, i tried the sandpaper first thing unfortunately. Going to see if I can find a regulator locally in the morning. Every other component checks out, still scratching my head?

Yes, it sparked when I polarized it, and I've checked every connector 3 times at least. It's charging when I full field it, going to try another source for the regulator, thanks for suggestions

(quoted from post at 00:51:00 11/04/19) Why don't you convert over to the 12V alternator ? I changed my 3000 over and it works great !!!
t sure looks like your comment, vs an answer, means that you have no clue as to an answer to the question being asked! "Any reason something in keyswitch might affect it? ".
