A guy in my area has a newer ford new Holland with duals front wheel assist power shift, it does not move either direction says it will cost $20,000 to fix it. I don't know much about tractor I think it's 150 +- hp range can't believe it could cost so much, what could be issues?

That happened to my 1996 Ford 8240 with 18 speed Funk. The problem was a bad seal in one of the clutch packs wouldn't hold pressure. It cost only around 3K to fix. Next year the hydraulic pump went out so there was no pressure to hold any of the clutch packs. That one cost around 8K. Next year two of the transmission control solenoid valves quit holding pressure. The valves were NLA but the new owner found some used ones and swapped them out himself.

An 8240 did not use an 18-speed transmission, nor was it made by Funk. The only 18-speed Funks would have
been in the 8x30 series tractors, or the European Genesis.

Someone who I though tknew told me that it was a Funk. In the book I believe they call it a mod quad or something like that. It was 16 speed: 4 manual x 4 power shift.

Your tranny was called the "quad mod". 4 powershifts in each of 4 ranges, for a total of 16 speeds. It is of
Ford design and manufacture. It is also called a "partial powershift", as opposed to a "full powershift" or
simply "powershift" of the 18-speed Funk.

If you look carefully, you'll find the Ford oval cast into the side of your tranny case. No such logo exists
on the Funk 18-speed trannies.

The knowledge on here amazes me, I enjoy reading it.

FYI, when you were talking funk, I thought you were in a down mood.
