For some reason my follow up comment did not show up. I thought I could do it without removing the cover because the Manual says to remove the inspection plate (the one with the dip stick) and measure the gap that way, so I assumed I could make any adjustment through the inspection plate hole. Obviously, you guys have more experience than I in this area, and I am resolved to remove the lift cover. That makes it a Winter project once I get enough Kero for the tank to heat my garage, get the gasket and O rings, put the come-along up to the rafter, etc. Of course, here in Maine, Nov. is deer hunting season, so I'm afraid I have to prioritize finding bambi over fixing the 850. Thanks all, I will first try to adjust the draft plunger.
