carborator for Ford 640 tractor

My old girl finally is getting a replacement for the original float type carb that came with her back in 1957. I"m thinking of getting the Zenith Carborator that Yesterdays sell, Model #13880. Is this a good choice?

I'd take a quality rebuild on an original Marvel Schebler any day over a new Zenith. But if you want/need a new carb, Zenith is about the only game in town.

Only reason I have ever found to not keep and rebuild the factory carb is if the casting some place is broken. If I where you I would keep my factory carb and rebuild it or have it rebuilt. They are very simple carbs and they are not all that bad to rebuild plus to rebuild one is a lot less then buying one of them new junk carbs. Yep I said JUNK because the factory carb rebuilt is 1000 times better then the new junk carbs

It's really not that hard or expensive to rebuild the OEM Marvel S Carb kit maybe a float and you're in business. I did it and I could tear up a ball bearing!

Sorry, JimUT, but, the overwhelming consensus from the six replies I have received is to keep and rebuild the original carb. Thanks for your responce.

Thank you WayneIA, I will take your and all six others advice and rebuild the old MS carb. The old 640 has been a good machine for the easy duty she has at the tree farm.

Thanks, Old, the overwhelming consensus is to rebuild. So, rebuild I will and save me some $$ in the process. Again, thanks.

Good for you. Plus if you find you need help in that rebuild just ask and I bet you will have a good number of us that will help you if you find you need help. Yep I have rebuilt so many carbs over the years I can almost do it in my sleep
