Setting brakes on my 3000???

[b:f08de4160d][i:f08de4160d]First off......I don't think the PO of this machine, knew what P...M... even was. (NUFF SAID There)
? is....how much free play should there be, after setting the brakes!!!!
I know how to set them.....(Haven't done it yet)....But getting ready to do them. How much play in the rod's, after setting the brakes?????
There is still enough brake to stop the tractor, with out setting them....BUT..... there, is an awful lot of free-play in the rod/peddle?

Trying to get this 3000 ready for the winter work, is a new learning curve for me!! :lol: (simple things for simple minds)....Ya know????

Use the adjusting wheel between the shoes to get them to just rub when you spin the drum. Do each side then use the clevis on the brake pedal rods to equalize the braking so it doesn't pull to the side or lock up one wheel first.

Royse also said you could just grab the sides of those tire chains,
one side in each hand and stretch them to the right width to fit the tires.
Which do you suppose will happen first! LOL

Here's a procedure for adjusting the brakes I found. I wouldn't
swear by it, but it sounds reasonable enough. I would leave some
play in the pedals. Maybe 3/4 inch or so. I don't like the brakes
rubbing all the time or they're just constantly wearing down.

With the brake drums cold and the differential lock (where fitted) dis-
engaged, block one rear wheel and jack up the other.
Remove the adjustment slot plug in the brake back plate and using a
screwdriver through the slot rotate the adjuster (1) to expand the brake
shoes. Expand the shoes until they lock the wheel then back off the
adjuster until the wheel is just free to rotate without binding. Replace
the adjustment slot plug.

Lower the tractor, block the adjusted wheel, raise the opposite wheel and
adjust the other brake.

After both brakes have been adjusted, ensure the pedals are even and road
test the tractor to ensure the brakes are applied evenly.

Well now.....as for stretching those chains over the sides of the tires.......why the Heck do you think I invited you to come back for another visit!!!!???
AND...as for using a screwdriver to adjust the brakes....can't I just use my brake spoon for adjusting them.
I be havin' things...Ya know?????

I suppose you could use any "tool" you see fit as long as it's stiff, pointed and fits through the hole! LOL
