Fuel Gauge reading backwards?

I bought a replacement gauge cluster for my ford 3000. Everything works fine except the fuel gauge. It's reading backwards. I pulled the sending unit and it moves the needle just fine only in the wrong direction. I tried switching the wires on back of the gauge, but that only pegs it out on empty. Anyone else experienced this?

Until more knowledgeable gurus respond... I would think if you grounded the terminal to the sender it should peg full. Determine if its the gauge or the sender and replace as needed.

I would investigate a mis-match between gauge & sender, as some senders are at max resistance full , while others are at max resistance empty.

In this thread there are ohm specs for the sending unit.

Take a paint maker, and put a "F" where the "E" is and put a "E" were the "F" is. There done.....

Merry Christmas.

Lol... I think that's what I'll do for now.

I know this is an old thread, but just in case a solution was found. I installed a new sending unit and now the gauge reads backwards, i.e., as the tank empties the needle moves towards full.

Post a video of your tractor on Facebook.

Caption the video that you have invented a new engine that captures CO2 from the air as it runs to create its own fuel.

Go further to say that this technology can reverse Climate Change, but the oil industry is hiding it.

Sit back and wait for it to go viral.

You may as well have some fun with this.
