3600 oil leak

Are 3600 gas tractors known for leaking oil out the rear of the oil pan or should we assume it is the rear seal. Thanks.

It's hard to say from your description.
Ford tractors have a cotter pin in a hole under the the bell housing. It's there to jangle around and keep that hole open so any leakage from either the rear engine seal or the front transmission seals drains out and doesn't muck up your clutch.
First thing to do is insure that hole is not plugged up and is draining properly.

Though what UD said is true, consider also that the oil is dripping from the low point of the WHOLE motor, including the valve cover. Before splitting it to replace the rear main seal, if you can't ID the exact point where the oil is coming out, give it a good cleaning and then watch. I recently had a leak on a car at the back of the pan that turned out to be a distributor lubrication line.
