64 ford 4000 4 cyl gas missing part under engine?

did my annual crawl under the tractor and my mind is getting old. im trying to recall what accessory goes here....or did i rip something off?

sorry, no pic...so lets try this. directly down from the battery to the bottom of the tranny behind the oil pan is a clean unpainted area with a squarish hole in it showing a plastic cover or tank bottom inside? dont know. but there are a bunch of tapped holes for bolts and one is still in it doing nothing.

so....what goes there and is there a plate i should order to cover it?

Four bolts or five securing missing cover?

Rectangular or irregular shaped cover?

Dean

If your talking about the 4 bolt kind of oblong cover that goes over the crank pulley, I have one. You pay the shipping and it's yours. It's even blue!

bob kuczynski,
This is the diagram from the owners manual. There was originally a flat plate with 4 holes in the corners bolted in that area.
There was not any area that was Brazed from the factory. You have a VERY UNIQUE tractor there. One of a kind! That's why no one could answer your question.

My Guess would be that your tractor was severely damaged in that area and the cracks in the tranny case were BRAZED.
As JMOR has suggested, a piece of sheet metal was cut and placed over the rest of the hole.
If it runs and operates OK, I would be tempted to leave it alone. It's your tractor so you must decide.

ok, so im to understand all it needs is a simple plate to cover it. the tractor was bought from state auction so it was a states dot ford (yellow) unique in a sense, its broken and no others are! LOL.
it musta got whacked pretty hard during its life.
i have no issues whatsoever and it ran fine for 7 years.
i assume the cover i need to make is just to keep foreign crud out of there?
i can make it if needed.
is that area just an inspection hole?

Bob,
Yes to simple plate, but it had a hole in the center to let fluids drain out I think.
I would say YES to it got whacked.
Yes to keep stuff out.
Yes it is an inspection hole (or what is left of one).
That hole is bigger than it was originally. Heck maybe they cut a hole to repair the clutch. LOL!
I am still thinking that once you look up in there you may find more cracks from the damage that was done.
Maybe someone put a backhoe on that thing and cracked it in half (see video that was posted by Royce today 10-17).

good to know. thanks keith.
no big impliments on this tractor. just a hog a blade and once in a blue moon post hole digger.
i just want to keep stalks from angling into the hole when bushogging.
i might just tack a thin cover on it and if i ever need to get in for any reason...a simple chisel to the tacks will knock it off.
life goes on.
