correct operating temp for a 4000 gas 4cyl?

i had a new thermostat put in after realizing i never had one at all.
tractor runs at 200-230 during peak usage. good? bad? no signs of over boiling. all seems secure.
its just my gas tank is still making my gas bubble. seems pretty hot to me up on top.
ideas?

hat degree is thermostat? what temp was it running before thermostat installed?

Yes. There should be a heat shield between the muffler and fuel tank. You do need it.

Verify correct ignition timing and proper operation of the mechanical advance mechanism.

Avoid gasoline with ethanol if at all possible.

timing is perfect.
87 oct ethenol is all i got in this area. im using gas additive STABIL since tractor sits for some time off season.

(quoted from post at 07:09:05 10/16/19) there is a shield over the muffler exhuast pipe. [b:b50b5c19ac]its the tank itself exposed to the valve cover area that im suspect of[/b:b50b5c19ac].

It's hard for me to believe the heat from the motor is boiling the gas in your tank... (if that's what you're suggesting)

Ray,
Boiling the gas is known to happen in these.
I can remember it happening from the time we first got our 4000 in April of 64.
Plowing for winter wheat in August after we cut the oats was when I remember it the most back then.
I have it happen now when I rotary cut with a 6 foot Woods mower.
I have even seen the bubbles coming down the fuel line into the sediment bowl.
BTW, the motor never stops because of this.

i wonder if putting an insulation board over the heat shield will help? you know the kind, it sorta looks like styrofoam with aluminium film over it.
hmmm?

Wow Keith, I would have never thought.

Bob,
You could try enriching the fuel mixture.
Ethanol gas (E10) will make the engine run a little leaner.

Make sure you have COMPLETELY cleaned the radiator fins. I like to use compressed air for this.

I would not put a foam panel under the tank. The gas is boiling because it is hotter than ~170 degrees. The foam products (I believe) will melt and possibly burn at those temps.
