reversing sediment bowl ?

I have a 63 4000 gasser. Is there any effect/harm in reversing the sediment bowl so that the gas line fitting is on the outside instead of the inside. I did this because it was easier to reroute the fuel line that way. Seems like I've read somewhere that it could restrict the fuel flow somewhat. True, or no?

Thanks, Mark

So you've turned the bowl assembly 180 degrees so the fuel line points up and outboard rather than up and inboard? I don't see how that could affect fuel flow.

ooks like there may be a problem. Notice the non-symmetry of the part that hollow bolt passes thru relative to the center-line of fuel line as well as path in casting going down to bowl? This may throw off alignment between hole in hollow bolt and the passages. Look into the bottom of sediment bowl casting (as in picture here) and see if hollow bolt hole alignment is correct or compromised. Check fuel line inlet for same.

Didn't make any difference on mine with the temporary tank on it.

Fuel line close to the engine helps to keep it from getting snagged by limbs or brush when working in rough areas, other wise it doesn't matter.

My routing is like your second pic only with the bowl reversed. Sometimes it seems like it may be starving for fuel a bit(under load). I should be able to put it back on the original side to see if it makes any difference. I also suspect a fitting I have between the fuel shutoff and the fuel line. It has a narrower opening than the fuel line. Not sure if it can be drilled out or not. Had to use that fitting when I switched shutoff valves from lever to shutoff type.

o need to worry about adequate flow. Remove drain plug from bottom of carb and let flow until fill a pint jar....if fill in less than 2 minutes, that will be more flow that engine can burn.

OOOOHHH, yes it does make a difference. Found out when tractor died in traffic from fuel starvation. This is from a few years back, but as I remember, the hollow where the bolt goes in is smaller on the end where the bolt originally goes in. I think I took a large rattail file and enlarged the smaller end, never had the problem again. Play with the parts and you should see the issue. Possible that some aftermarket filters are large bore all the way thru, don't know. Orig did have the 2 diameters.

Interesting.... I'll have to check that out.
