Fors 3000 3 cyl gas

Being lazy here. I have a 3000 3 cyl gas. It's orange, it's an 8 speed. Fastest road gear I've ever experienced. 4th has a spring load on 4th gear as if to say, do you really mean to put it in this gear? Did they make 3000s with different gear speeds? I think it will go as fast in Hi 3 as my 3600 will go in Hi 4

Look up the model number - either on the foil tag under the hood or hand stamped on the transmission just aft and above the starter.
Being it's orange you might have one of the low center of gravity models like 2110 or 4110. Those look like a 3000 but are geared to run small diameter rear tires.
Someone might have put ag tires on yours which would give it a very high speed.

That s the deal with one of my 2110 s. One has the shorter duals and the 74 has the larger ag tires which brings up the speed.

If they did the conversion thing from the LCG, they did a complete job, changing the front knees also. I'll see what I can figure out on the numbers. I did bail on the power steering at this point. Maybe some day I'll come across the parts necessary to fix it but for now, manual steering will do. Also have a little problem with the Holly carb. Seems the throttle plate won't close the throat up enough to get the idle below 1,200. The throttle shaft won't rotate any further, the idle adjustment screw isn't even in it. Hate taking that thing off - again. Not a lot of room to wiggle around the carb or the list. on these models

"Hate taking that thing off - again."

They are a pain, that's for sure! If you do take it off again, make
sure the butterfly plate is installed right-side-up and centered right.
On many, the edges are beveled. If installed up-side-down, it won't close.
I can't remember if the 3000 Holley plate was beveled, but I can check
my spare carb tomorrow to see if it is. It's on a shelf in the shop.

My 3000 8 speeds do not have a spring load on 4th gear.
They feel the same to me as all of the other gears. 1972 and 1974 AG tractors.

Thanks Royse, I expect to find something like that. I was delighted the other day to learn that the distributor is easily removed and reinstalled for installing points and condenser. I've done it with the distributor in place, think I did a poor job and had cramps in my fingers for a week after,
LOL
