ford 8 speed

I was in a bone yard that is slowly cutting everything up. I saw a ford industrial tractor parted out. I guessed that from the yellow paint. No sheet metal or engine , no tires or rims. I could see the long stick, short stick that looked like the 8 speed trans. It had inboard brakes and the slots in the rear end housing to adjust the fenders. How can I tell if this is a late 3600 style with live pto, or the 4600 style? I would hate to see it cut up. Wouldn't this be worth getting just for someone who might want to swap a SOS over to 8 speed? I think a few hundred would buy it. Al

3000/3600 chassis has dry outboard brakes/drums and holes in the axle so the fenders only go on in one location.
4000/4600 is as you described.
One thing about the industrials is they not have a pto and maybe no 3 point. So check those before you buy.
Also, a lot of them had that 6X4 transmission which, IMO would be preferable to an SOS but not as desirable as the 8X2.

With the engine gone you should be able to see the transmission input shaft. If it is live PTO there will be 2 shafts, one inside the other.
