I had a small run in with a fire this past weekend and trying to locate a wiring harness for a '74 3000 gas burner. I am finding several online for around $50-100 but most are saying for diesel and the only one I have found that specifies 'Gas' is $470!!! Does anyone know what the difference between the gas and diesel wiring harness would be? Thanks in advance for your help.

Buy the diesel one.
The only difference is the diesel has a
10 ga wire that goes from the key switch
to a heater in the intake manifold.
Gas has a smaller 14 ga? wire that goes
from the key switch to the coil. Use the
diesel heater wire to feed the coil.
PS, that heater wire has a big honkin
spade connector on both ends. Replace
them with a suitable connector to fit on
the key sw.
The rest of the harness is identical.
They sell them here on this site.

I will definitely be getting one ordered from the site. Thanks again for the help.Okay so I've been talking to a local tractor place and the guy is telling me I need the $470 harness and an additional harness because its gas. Hes saying its because it's post Nov/1973.
Does anyone have any insight on this change in production date? I had another tractor shop mention something about pre/post Nov/1973 models.
I don't mind doing some minor modifications to a harness, like mentioned above, so it doesn't have to be a exact model, I just need all leads to be there.

Your tractor guy doesn't know what he's
talking about.
I have installed at least half a dozen
of those $50 diesel wiring harnesses -
some on gassers and some on diesels and
know for a Fact it will work on your
gasser if you use that heater wire for
your coil feed.
One thing I did not mention before is on
the original harness there was a
resister wire that plugged into a bullet
connector near the starter solenoid to
drop the voltage to the coil. It was 3
folds of wire wrapped together. If that
wire is not burned up reuse it. If it is
burned up buy a true 12V coil - Napa
part # IC14

Your local tractor guy is wrong, there is only one front and one rear harness listed for all of the 3 cylinder models, it's been that way since to 80's or before, the electrical section of my factory parts book is dated 1987 and it only shows one harness for the 2-3-400 series.
The 1973 break he's referring to is for the 5-7000 models of which some of those models had alternators, my 74 model 5000 had a generator and used the early wiring harness.
Ultradog gave you good advice and you can purchase a new aftermarket harness from this site for $48.30, I've used a couple of them, no complaints.
Good deal. Thank you guys for replying. I found exactly what I was looking for here. Actual people that have done it, not just someone looking at a parts book. Y'all have been extremely helpful and I'm sure I will be back with more questions as I get in to this project. This is my first rodeo so I have a lot to learn.
