Removing cowl from 7600

I'm trying to find where the power steering is leaking on a 7600 and it appears to be worst near the top close to the steering wheel. This 7600 has a cab and I am having trouble removing the cowl (the sheet metal right over the fuel tank that the cluster and key switch are attached to). I think I have all the bolts removed but can't figure out a way to get enough clearance around the windshield to get it out. The tractor number is C491817 and the model is FA115C if it makes any difference.

Any ideas?

Do you have instrument cluster out ? Un hook tach cable under oilfilter then it pull up enough to disconnect cable from cluster, then unplug harness.

I have the cluster mostly out, I just haven't marked the wires for disconnecting them yet. The cluster does not seem to be an issue.

I can't imagine that you would get it out from under the windshield without lifting the front of the cab a little. Remember that the cabs were built by another company and set on the finished tractor. It shouldn't be a big deal to remove the four main mount bolts and raise it a little. I completely removed the cab from a Case 1490 in order to split it. It wasn't a big deal.

Thanks, Im not at the tractor right now any way you could use a jack or something, maybe just take out the front bolts? Figure I'll probably just have to undo everything and use a loader or something but would be great if I could do it some other way.

I think that you should be able to get it just by taking the nuts off the bolts. without being there I can't say where you would place jacks, but I would think that with some blocking and a couple bottle jacks that it would be pretty straight forward. Loosen the back ones a half inch. watch wires and linkages carefully.

If it's a factory cab, it was definitely built by Ford, and it's not just "set on" the finished tractor. The engineers tried very hard to make working on that tractor as difficult as possible.

ell thats not what I was wanting to hear, well I'm going back to work on it some more tomorrow. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Well I got the cowl off by removing all bolts but very rear ones which I left in loose and jacked on one side. That got me enough clearance to get out the center piece which in turn let me get off the cowl, the steering wheel actually wasn't that bad to remove.

Now I am having trouble getting the pitman arm off, caught the tractor on fire in the process of heating it with map torch, burnt up all wires around key switch  luckily was able to get it out with some bottled water before whole shed went up. Lesson learned picking up a fire extinguisher before I use torch again.

Anyways anyone know a good puller for this? Getting ready to get a Posi Lock 210 Manual Puller but afraid I won't have clearance in the cab. All ready tried a "large craftsman puller" hammer and some heat, really trying to do it with out a torch now (really not a fun phone call to make to customer).
