need some help

My waterpump on the FORD 2000 is starting to make noise. My friend Jim said order a new waterpump
and we will change it, I looked it up on Y/T parts to order it. I have a 1973 model 2000 with the
3 cyd gas ,,I want to make sure I Order the right one,,and all the gaskets I need. Do I need the
motor number?I looked up the part,,but wasnt sure what to order.I did order a starter drive,and it
came last week and worked out great so far,,but the waterpump I Could use some reassurance from
experts before I send for it.

To be sure that you get a water pump for 3 cylinder 2000 rather than the earlier 4 cylinder 2000, make sure that the listing says that it is also for a 3000, as they both used the same water pump and there was only ever the one 3 cylinder model called the 3000. The 3 cylinder 2000 and 3000 tractors are almost identical except for a few small differences. The 3 cylinder engines used the same water pump for both gasoline and diesel models. It looks like YT sells two of them that claim to be correct for your tractor, one with the back housing already installed, and the other without, so you swap the back housing from your old one to the new one, for about $13.00 less. They both come with the gasket:

When you unbolt it the entire pump and back housing comes off together, then you have to separate the pump from the back housing, clean 3 gasket surfaces, both sides of the back housing plus the engine block, install the pump onto the back housing and then reinstall the assembly.
I'd spend the extra $13 to get the pump and back housing already pre assembled , clean the gasket surface on the block and install the new pump assembly.
Sometimes saving a few $ isn't worth all the extra work involved.

Larry,

One last little idea. You would be wise to look closely at the fan belt while you have the machine disassembled. I recently replaced the belt on my 1973 Ford 2000 3 cylinder gas tractor. It wasn't possible to get the belt out between the fan blade and the shroud. I had to remove the hood, front nose cover, front bumper, and radiator to replace the belt. Way too much time and effort for such a simple task.

YMMV, but that's what I had to do on mine.
