Ford 3000 hydraulics

Hello.

Hydraulic problem on a Ford 3000 -74 model. about 2500 hours.

Position control seemes to work poorly: Nothing happens until the control quadrant is about 2 inches from the top stop. Then it begins to lift. It lifts to the top, and fast, but is not tested with more weight than an empty transport box.

Same symptom on an external cylinder.

The consequence is that the hydraulics become difficult to regulate as everything must be done within a very short area of the lever. The picture shows the lever in the neutral position, slightly higher, and it lifts, slightly lower, and it lowers.

All responses are highly appreciated.

Your description makes it sound like it's in draft control, even though the lever shows it as being in position control. I'd take the lid off myself and inspect the internal linkage. Something is broken or out of whack. Or maybe the draft/position lever is disconnected somehow.

Thank you very for your quick response and suggestion. Let me first state that I'm an absolute newbe when it comes to tractors and hydraulics.

I did some testing:

With the draft/position lever in lower position I pushed the upper link mount forward. Result: the lift arms comes up. When I pull the link mount backwards, the lift arms lowers.

When I repeat the experiement with the draft/position lever in upper (position) mode, nothing happens.

So my conclusion so far is that there are some difference between draft and position mode. Or.....?

When the little lever is flipped down in the draft mode.......

There should be very little or no slack in the rocker.... but in the draft mode, yes, when pushed in, it should lift and be more sensitive to rocker arm pressure as the lever is move to higher, less sensitive when lever is moved to lower position. But again, its a lot of pressure from the plow..as it has to push the big spring in... if the spring end is adjusted too loose, you can push it in by hand and that is not correct. pull the pin out of the rocker and tighten up the spring end and take out the excess slack, reinstall the pin in to the rocker again.

and with no pressure on the rocker, it should lift when the bib lever is nearly to the top..

Now with the little lever pointed up and in the "position" mode,,, the lift should rise and lower incrementally with the big lever position being raised or lowered..

Thank you for your detailed explanation. Just for the record: I used a crowbar to manipulate the rocker, it was not possible to move by hand

Hello

Finally I took the hydraulic lid off. The pictures shows what I've found so far:

1: This pin folllows the lift arm and I understand this sensors the lift arm position and manipulates the control valve. The pin is ground almost flat on one side. A solution is, as I have red, is to take it out an turn it 90 deg.

2: There is a deep groove in the cam (on the highest spot) that rides on the hydraulic control lever. What I understand, this cam manipulates the flow control valve. A corresponding pattern is seen in the pin which is pushed by the cam. I think the solution is to weld the cam, and grind it back to (somewhere near) the correct profile,

Questions

Could this errors cause the symptoms I described?

Anything else too look for when I'm in there?

thanks
