on front of radiator on my 961 ford the tractor there is a plug. I think it is an oil plug for the steering worm gear. what type of oil goes in there and how full should it be. thanks for reading

On my 960 narrow front, the hydraulic dipstick is marked on one
side for transmission level and on the other side, to check the front
end oil level. Yours may be the same.

What Royce said.

I highly recommend draining at least some of the oil, you'll probably find there's water in the pedestal. My plug was stuck and had probably never been removed; I broke my 3/8 to 1/4 inch drive reducer trying to remove it. I was able to get it out by heating it with my acetylene torch, using a brazing tip to focus heat on the plug.

Agree with Mark.

Drain it.

It probably has more water in it than oil.

It is not uncommon for NF pedestals to crack from freeze damage.
