Ford 4600 Fuel Filter Stuck

Posted this on the main forum but never got a clear answer.

Trying to replace the fuel filter on a Ford 4600 and I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. Operators manual doesn't help at all. Got the filter off but the metal piece on the top of the filter seems to be stuck on. See attached picture. Any suggestions?

If it really IS the filter top, remove that O ring and it should come right off. The O ring seals the ID of that filter. I've never seen a filter top come apart like that, when filter is in place the top should NEVER go past that O ring, or filter will let dirt pass.

You talking about the rubber washer or the metal o ring? If you're talking about the metal then I can't remove that. its the cast piece of the top of the filter housing

That bent metal part, if it IS a filter top will pull right down easily after the center pilot lower O ring is removed. That's why I'm not sure it's a filter top, it might just be a baffle. If the base is a WATER TRAP, I don't think a filter would fit there, but it might. Do you have a photo of what was removed? That would help.

Was part of the old filter. Went at it with a pair of wire cutters till she gave and it came off. New one went right on and held a good seal. Thanks guys!
