12v charging issues on 850

If I understand correctly I need to connect the p1 to the alt output and run the output to the block. Does p2 have to be connected for it to charge? I have tried two alternators and can t get either to charge.

assume that you are speaking of the Delco 10SI? If so, then you have 1 & 2 reversed and unless it is a one-wire unit, then yes, the excite terminal #1 needs power to kick off charging.
 

Yeah it s the 10si and that s how it s wired. It tested fine and so did the old unit but I never see over 11v at the output or the volt meter.
