I have a 1962 Ford 641 Workmaster, have had it two years, always starts first try. A few days ago I was using it around the property starting and stoping occasionally. I stopped and turned it off for 30-40 mins and went to restart and nothing, headlights work bright, don t dim when I hit the starter ? I replace the solenoid and also tried a jump wire to see if the starter button wasn t grounding. Hooked it up to my truck and still nothing (the tractor was converted to 12 volt). I could sure use some advise on what else to try, this tractor has been kept up by the previous owner amazingly. I ve tried tapping the starter to see if it was stuck. Thank you in advance for any and all help and suggestions.

Try to jump directly to the starter to bypass everything else. Make tripple dog sure you are in neutral or do it while sitting on the tractor wich your foot on the clutch. Also make sure starter is well grounded to frame.
p.s. did either solenoid click when you tried it?

Have you gone connection by connection with a test light to see where you have voltage and where you don't?

I completely agree, get out the test light and/or multimeter before getting out wrenches. You mentioned "tapping on starter" to see if it was stuck. Work's much better to put it in high gear and rock the tractor to unlock starter.

First off I said neither solenoid made a clicking, I meant neithervthe new not the old, my apologize. I jumped the battery to the started and it started to crank. I will check all contacts along the positive battery cable, through the solenoid to the starter, I m guessing that where my problems are. If not I ll be back but thank you all so much, I m only 62 but survivor of a major heart attack and use this for grass cutting and snow. Grew up driving numerous small cords around the barns I worked. This tractor was a gift to me from my wife and myself for having survived the heart problem and to make life easier. (How much I love being on my tractor can be our secret). Thank you all again

Dave, lack of solenoid clicking indicates a problem in the control wiring as opposed to the cables. start with checking the small wires.
