Ford Diesel 4610 Temperature Gauge Circuit

Attempting to help on a temperature gauge problem on a 4610 Diesel.

Looking for any help with a schematic or knowledge of this system.

It's a pretty simple circuit. Key switched power comes into one side of the gauge, and the other side of the gauge grounds through the sending unit near the thermostat. Easy way to test would be to remove the wire at the sending unit and ground it - the gauge should peg hot. If it does, you likely have a bad sending unit. If it does not move at all, check for power to the gauge itself, or else continuity in the circuit from the gauge to the sending unit.

That is true for the 4610 gassers but apparently the diesels are different or his has been modified.

He tells me his sender unit has two terminals on it. I believe the gasser unit grounds through the shell of the sensor.

He also tells me with the key OFF, the gauge reads full right (HOT) and with the key ON, the gauge reads full left (COLD).

Does not make sense to me!
 
The factory sending unit uses one wire, both diesel and gas. In fact, I'm pretty sure they're the same, and it does in fact ground through the body of the sensor.

Send me a text to three-6-zero, 7-zero-8, 8-two-8-zero and I'll send you a high resolution image of the factory wiring diagram. It's very simple.

Yes, I did receive the diagram. It is the same as what I already had except better resolution.

He has a new multimeter on order. I suspect any real troubleshooting will not happen until he receives that. First thing is to determine what he has since it appears it is not standard.
 

Certainly not the answer one would expect! The green wire from the connector to the gauge was missing!

I think we have a communication problem regarding where the needle sets at cold but it's working now!
