Need Ford Rim Clamps

So I have an 1958 861 powermaster with power adjust rims and I've just had both tires and rims off for rim repairs (rusted around valve stems). I have noticed that three of the clamps (pictured) that hold the rim to the center are not original to this tractor and I'd like to replace them with originals if possible as I will be doing a restoration on the old girl when she's retired to light duty in a couple years. Wondering if anyone has a couple three of these they would be willing to part with or maybe know where I might find some. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There should be 3 of those for each wheel . . . and one special stop clamp per each wheel. What do you have that's different than that you pictured?

One rim has 4 of those with 2 of the bolts that are obviously not stock and the other rim has 3 of those and one of these clamps
in the additional pic. So what I believe I need is one of the clamps in the original post and 3 of the short carriage bolts that
fasten it to the rim.

Larry,

I think I see where I'm wrong. I have 7 of the clamps in the original post and only 1 of the clamps pictured in my reply to you so I think I actually only need one of the stop clamps with the little "finger" on it.

I would have one of the above stop clamps, but if you are looking for originality ,these clamps or not correct, The stop clamp for the X01 series tractors had a spring loaded push pin rather then the knurled adjusting nut on the hundred series tractors.

May have some left over when get ones put back on 841,may make into 861. Had to build all of them up so would not knock when moving.

Be careful upon reassembly, as the so-called spacer clamp shown in the later photo can only be installed in a single position.

Installation in any other position will cause it to break upon tightening the bolt.

FWIW, the OEM fine threaded clamp bolts, nuts and washers are still available from CNH (or were a few years ago) but are quite expensive.

Wayne,

The stop clamp in my second picture has a spring loaded tab that at one point could be depressed and it appears it would have been turned to hold it in place but the spring mechanism has been seized for some time. So if I have an 861, would three of the first clamps and one of these spring loaded clamps per tire be original to the tractor?

Thanks for the tip Dean, I'll make sure to be get it oriented the right way. Would the bolts and nuts you mention that were available at CNH be the same ones being sold on the yesterdays tractors parts store listed as "Ford 801 Rear Rim Carriage Head Bolt and Nut"? Asking because the ones for sale on the YT parts page says they are for an 801 series but don't mention model 861.

Haven't looked at the YT page but unlikely.

The YT bolts are most likely bolts for six loop rims.

The OEM PA clamp bolts are special fine threaded grade 8 (or harder) bolts and are shorter than six loop bolts.

The clamp bolts for vintage Ford PA rims buts be very tight to prevent noise and movement.

Yes I believe that is correct. And as Dean said that clamp only fits in one particular position on the wheel. And if that special bolt is still available From NH they will terribly expensive.

"And if that special bolt is still available From NH they will terribly expensive."

All of my bolts that weren't rusted in, were loosely captive in the wheel centers.
They wobbled, but had to be driven out. How do you replicate that?

Fine thread carriage bolts are readily available, even in grade 8.
Probably not at a big box store, but my local hardware carries them and
I've found them at multiple places online like McMaster-Carr and Grainger

The rim clamps themselves took me a while to find.
Then I bought some used tractors that had junk rims on them.
I might have some spares laying around but I would need to go hunt them down.

They are not carriage bolts but are similar.

Yes, they will be expensive if still available from CNH. So too will be the nuts and hardened washers.

Dean

"They are not carriage bolts but are similar."

I would agree. It seems as though they were lightly swedged in the center.
After they're taken out though, they don't seem to hold as they did originally.
Fine thread, hardened, short carriage bolts have worked fine for me ever since.
I don't recall if I used hardened washers, but most likely so since I ordered them together.

If you would happen to have or find one of the stop clamps with the little "finger" on it, I would be interested in buying it. I
will likely just buy a couple of the fine threaded carriage bolts but would be intersted in 3 of the original bolts with nuts if
you had any of those. Thanks.

Shaun,

I would be interested in 3 of the original bolts with nuts if you had them. Also would be interested in one of the stop clamps with the little "finger" on it if you came across one of those as well. Thanks.

Don

Wayne,

Did you say you had one of the stop clamps with the spring loaded tab or you just had the one with the knurled knob on it? Thanks - Don
