Ford 3000 Cam gear

4 of 6 push rods bent. pulled timing cover and found cam gear bolt has come out and cam gear retaining plate sheared off both bolts
Found debris in oil pan. Cleaned all gasket surfaces and was going to re attach cam gear but Diesel timing marks way out of wack . Can I remove Camshaft drive gear and align the timing marks?

Yes. That is a "hunting gearset", meaning that once the marks are all lined up, they will go out of
alignment during the next rotation and might not all come back into alignment until a few dozen more turns.
It all has to do with the unequal number of teeth on the various gears.
 
Wait until you get one that has no timing marks on pump gear or flywheel. No key in pump gear and a broken crankshaft. Lots of fun. Degree wheel and dial indicator. 192 cu in turbo engine.
 
I lined up all the marks and rotated the crank several times and when #1 is at TDC the marks all line up. Am I safe to install the timing cover ,oil pan , and rocker assembly and fire the engine?
